Drawing A Human

Usually, I start it with draw the chin. There are reasons to draw the chin first. Chin determine what character do such as laughing, angry, smile. Chin also determine the shape of the face. Chin also can determine the gender of character, male or female. Chin also determine the direction of the face.

Then I draw the head and the neck. Neck is important to determine the position of body. For example, if we want to draw a human from the top, then we should not able to see the neck.

After that, I draw the body (and leg if necessary). Notice that I didn't draw the hand first. It is important to get the overall shape before the detail.

If you draw the hand first, you'll be concentrated in details of hand and after you finish it, you'll realize that the "hand" is not suit to "body". Trust me, I often experienced it before.

Okay, now we draw the hand.

At this time, you may find the body you drew before is not fit with the "hand" but you can erase and fix it easily. Don't hesitate to erase at this moment.

Do you see that the picture is almost finished? You just add the detail and "voila"

The Eye

I've already seen many times people from amateur people to the good ones. "Eye" is one of the part that amateur often cannot draw. The amateur sometimes draw the eye like, what I called as, "cat's eye". Both corner of eye is balance and the eyeball is put in the middle.

In fact, in human eye, the corner of an eye is not balance. Eye corner in side of nose is wider than corner in side of ears.

About the eyeball, it doesn't have to in the middle of eye. It is depend on direction where the character see.

There are many ways to draw an eye ball, like Europe way (just a dot), Japanese Manga way (big eye), etc. But most of them have the same basic, sklera, pupil, iris, reflection of light. Sklera is the white part of eye around the eyeball. Pupil is a small hole exact in middle of eyeball and it is where the light come into the eye from outside. Iris is a rainbow area around the pupil. When you said someone have a blue eyes or brown eyes, what you mean are the iris.
